Ritu's Handlooms has grown alongside Assam's rich tradition of handwoven textiles.
Founded in 1991, it began with a simple belief: that beautiful handloom is meant to be worn, lived in and passed on.
Today, that belief lives on through Mekhela Sador, sarees, stoles and handwoven fabrics in Muga, Paat, Kesa Paat, Tussar and cotton. Each carries something of Assam in its colour, craft and character, while finding its place in the wardrobe of the modern Indian woman.
At the heart of it all are the people who weave with us. Many have been part of Ritu's for decades. Their knowledge of silk, thread, colour and the loom is not something learned from a book. It is built through years of looking, making and making again.
We believe tradition is not something to be preserved behind glass.
It is something to be worn, lived and carried forward.
And so, Ritu's continues to weave Assam into the present, with deep respect for where we come from and an eye for where we are going.

The House
The people behind the eye, the craft and everything in between.
Ritu's is held together by people who care rather deeply about how things should look, feel and be made.
There is a certain stubbornness to that. The insistence on getting the colour right. On waiting for the right fabric. On making fewer things, but making them worth wanting. On keeping an old language alive without letting it become old-fashioned.
The next generation has brought its own eye to the house: a little more curious, a little more contemporary, looking at fashion, art, travel and the world beyond Assam, and finding ways to bring those influences back to our textiles.
But some things are not up for reinvention. The standards, the love for handloom, the respect for the people who make it, and the belief that beautiful things deserve time.
This is the small circle that keeps all of it moving. Different instincts, different roles, one shared stubbornness to make Ritu's feel like Ritu's.

A weaver herself, Rakhi brings an understanding of the craft and the people who make Ritu's textiles possible. She helps keep the relationship between the house, its designs and its artisans strong.

There is very little behind the scenes that escapes Malobika. From keeping the books and inventory in order to helping tell the Ritu's story online, she is one of the people who keeps the house moving. The everyday ninja behind the scenes.

For over three decades, the people who weave for Ritu's have been part of the story.
Some have been here since 1991. Others joined later, bringing their own knowledge of silk, thread, colour and the loom.
Together, they have watched designs evolve, colours change and generations grow around the craft.
We may begin with an idea. But it is their knowledge that gives it form.
They are not simply the people who make our textiles. They are custodians of a craft, and part of the continuity that makes every Ritu's piece what it is.
